Moisture Absorption & Deodorising Homeware

Diatomite is a natural material made from fossilised remains of single-cell algae.

It is highly porous at a molecular level which enables excellent water absorption among other benefits.

Made with 100% Diatoms & Natural Minerals

Bulbul’s diatomite homeware is made with only 100% natural materials and baked at high temperatures under a kiln. It is formed under high pressure without using harmful chemicals such as pulp or cement and baked at over 1,000 °F which forms the material’s hardness while eliminating any impurities.

Care Information

Bulbul Diatomite products are like ceramics and are fragile, handle with care. Product may appear powdery out of the box due to the natural composition of the materials. Simply wipe it clean with a damp cloth before using it. Product is supposed to be kept dry, do not wash before use.

The Diatomite products absorption rate and performance will vary based on how heavy use it undergoes. Here are some care tips to maintain peak performance.

If you have previously used it to hold soap. Firstly, place the product into boiling water to displace any residual soap oils and dirt that may be trapped inside. This step is important as the soap can leave behind thin oil layers that may interfere with water absorption. Furthermore, you can use 1 tablespoon of Sodium Percarbonate to help displace oils and dirt more effectively. After completing this step, you can proceed with the microwave/oven drying process.

To speed up the drying process, you can place product inside the microwave, oven or simply dry under direct sun. The recomended microwave/oven timings for each product are as follows:

Recommended time for Microwave based on 800-1000 watt power

Double Sided Tray: 2m 30sec
Small Drying Holder: 1m
Medium Drying Holder: 2m 30sec
Large Drying holder: 7m
Soap Dish : 2m
Coaster: 1m 30sec

(Please note that microwaving with trapped soap oil and dirt may leave burn marks on product)

Recommended time for oven for all products is 5 minutes under 200°C temperature.

(Please note that baking with trapped soap oil and dirt may leave burn marks on product)

In case of stubborn algae or stains, gently use fine-grit sandpaper to remove them.

Broken pieces still retain their property. Re-use them as dehumidifiers for your wardrobe or shoe cabinets to give the broken pieces a second life.

Feature

Microwavable.

Bulbul's diatomite stands out due to its remarkable feature: microwave-friendly drying. Unlike typical diatomite products, which blend in plastics and fibers, our diatomites are crafted in a ceramic-like manner, fired under high temperatures. This unique composition allows for efficient drying when microwaved, offering a practical solution to moisture absorption.

Feature

Boilable.

For the occasional deep clean, you can boil it to displace any trapped oils and dirt that are being absorbed by the diatomite. Make sure to dry it completely before use.

Feature

Dry it under the Sun

If you do not have access to a microwave or simply prefer not to use one, the sun-drying method is a suitable alternative. Place the product outdoors on a sunny day, and you can be confident it will not deform.

Natural Variations in Diatomite.

Due to the distinctive composition of our product, made without chemical bonding agents which involves the meticulous baking of a homogeneous blend of natural minerals and diatomite, slight color variations may occur between product batches. These variations can be challenging to control due to the natural state of these minerals. A subtle pinkish hue in the diatomite might be noticed, attributed to the presence of iron oxide minerals or organic matter. Minerals like hematite or goethite may impart a reddish or pinkish tint to the diatomite, and occasional marbling and texturing may arise from variations in the mineral mixture. Please be aware that these properties contribute to the uniqueness of the material. As such, it is important to consider these characteristics before making a purchase, as products with these natural variations will not be accepted for exchange or refund.

Care Instructions

Gently wipe it clean with a damp cloth before use. Using force to wipe may cause abrasions. The product should be kept dry; do not wash before use. Mold may grow if the product is left in a wet place for long periods of time.

Maintenance

The absorption rate and performance of Modular Bath Mat may vary based on usage intensity. Here are some care tips to maintain peak performance. You may dry under the sun once every 1 to 4 weeks or when needed. For a deep clean, you may boil the ceramic blocks in boiling water for 15 to 30 minutes. Additionally, you may add 1 tablespoon of sodium percarbonate. Leave products under direct sun or microwave until completely dry. The products are made up of fine pores, make sure it is sufficiently dry before use.

Stains or Algae

In case of stubborn algae or stains, gently scrub with a sponge or fine-grit sandpaper to remove them. If it is a liquid stain that is trapped deep within the material. Use sodium percarbonate and boil it for 15 to 30 minutes. Make sure it is completely dry before use.

Microwave

To speed up the drying process, you can place the ceramic blocks inside the microwave in 1000 watt power. You may microwave again if it is still wet. (Please note that oven/microwaving with trapped soap oil, dirt, and/or any foreign materials may leave burn marks on the product.
Recommended time for Microwave based on 800-1000 watt powerDouble Sided Tray: 2m 30sec
