Moisture Absorption & Deodorising Homeware

Diatomite is a natural material made from fossilised remains of single-cell algae.

It is highly porous at a molecular level which enables excellent water absorption among other benefits.

Made with 100% Diatoms & Natural Minerals

Bulbul’s diatomite homeware is made with only 100% natural materials and baked at high temperatures under a kiln. It is formed under high pressure without using harmful chemicals such as pulp or cement and baked at over 1,000 °F which forms the material’s hardness while eliminating any impurities.

Dimensions

Each box includes 2 modules, each measuring 173mm by 175mm. We recommend purchasing a minimum of 3 boxes, totaling 6 modules, and increasing the quantity as needed. These modules are ideal for placement at bathroom or toilet entrances, effectively maintaining dry floors to prevent slips and falls.

Place Bulbul’s Diatomite Modular Bath Mat around bathrooms, toilets and kitchens to instantly absorb moisture from wet feet. The product may appear powdery out of the box due to the natural composition of the materials. Gently wipe it clean with a damp cloth before use. Using force to wipe may cause abrasions. The product should be kept dry; do not wash before use. Mold may grow if the product is left in a wet place for long periods of time.

The absorption rate and performance of Modular Bath Mat may vary based on usage intensity. Here are some care tips to maintain peak performance. You may dry under the sun once every 1 to 4 weeks or when needed. For a deep clean, remove the ceramic blocks from the plate and boil the ceramic blocks in boiling water for 15 to 30 minutes. Additionally, you may add 1 tablespoon of Sodium Percarbonate (Not Baking soda). Leave blocks under direct sun until completely dry. The ceramic blocks are made up of fine pores, make sure it is sufficiently dry before use. To speed up the drying process, you can place the ceramic blocks inside the microwave for 2½ minutes, or oven for 5 minutes. (Please note that oven/microwaving with trapped soap oil and dirt may leave burn marks on the ceramic block). Do not microwave the plastic plate.

In case of stubborn algae or stains, gently scrub with a sponge or fine-grit sandpaper to remove them.

Even broken ceramic pieces retain their properties. Reuse them as dehumidifiers for your wardrobe or shoe cabinets to give them a second life.

Recommended time for Microwave

2 minutes 30 seconds on 800-1000 Watt power

(Please note that microwaving with trapped soap oil and dirt may leave burn marks on product)

Recommended time for oven for all products is 5 minutes on 200°C with fan for an even distribution of heat
(Please note that baking with trapped soap oil and dirt may leave burn marks on product)

Diatomite Homeware

  • Instant Water Absorption

Diatomite’s porous structure helps regulate humidity by absorbing and releasing moisture in the air.

  • Prevent Water Scales & Mold

99.9% antibacterial and fast drying properties help to prevent water scales and mold.

  • 100% Natural Minerals

Made with only natural minerals with no artificial chemical compounds.

  • Permanent Use

Made with natural materials, its property is permanent. Boiling in water and sun-dry to restore its properties.

  • Useful Even When Broken

Broken parts can be reused as a dehumidifier.

  • Anti-odour

    Proven to eliminate Toluene,
    Formaldehyde and Ammonia odor.

  • Made Without Chemicals

Made with no chemical bonding agents or glue.

  • No Carcinogens

Tested and proven to be free of Asbestos or other carcinogens.

Feature

Microwavable.

Our diatomite stands out due to its remarkable feature: microwave-friendly drying. Unlike typical diatomite products, which blend in plastics and fibers, our diatomites are crafted in a ceramic-like manner, fired under high temperatures. This unique composition allows for efficient drying when microwaved, offering a practical solution to moisture absorption.

Feature

Boilable.

For the occasional deep clean, you can boil it to displace any trapped oils and dirt that are being absorbed by the diatomite.

For a deeper cleanse, you may add Sodium Percarbonate (Not Baking soda). It uses Oxygen molecules to cleanse deep within the pores.

Feature

Dry it under the Sun.

If you do not have access to a microwave or simply prefer not to use one, the sun-drying method is a suitable alternative. Place the product outdoors on a sunny day, and you can be confident it will not deform.

Natural Variations in Diatomite

Due to the distinctive composition of our product, made without chemical bonding agents which involves the meticulous baking of a homogeneous blend of natural minerals and diatomite, slight color variations may occur between product batches. These variations can be challenging to control due to the natural state of these minerals. A subtle pinkish hue in the diatomite might be noticed, attributed to the presence of iron oxide minerals or organic matter. Minerals like hematite or goethite may impart a reddish or pinkish tint to the diatomite, and occasional marbling and texturing may arise from variations in the mineral mixture. Please be aware that these properties contribute to the uniqueness of the material. As such, it is important to consider these characteristics before making a purchase, as products with these natural variations will not be accepted for exchange or refund.

  • Marbling or patching due to randomness in minerals mixture.

  • Red tint along edges due to moulding in high heat and pressure.

  • Rough Patch due to uneven distribution of minerals.

Stains & Algae

In case of stubborn algae or stains, gently scrub with a sponge or fine-grit sandpaper to remove them. If it is a liquid stain that is trapped deep within the material. Use sodium percarbonate and boil it for 15 to 30 minutes. Make sure it is completely dry before use.

Microwave

To speed up the drying process, you can place the ceramic blocks inside the microwave for 2½ minutes in 1000 watt power. You may microwave again for 2½ minutes if it is still wet. (Please note that oven/microwaving with trapped soap oil, dirt, and/or any foreign materials may leave burn marks on the ceramic block). Do not microwave the plastic plate. Diatomite will be hot after microwaving, take caution when handling the diatomite.

Collapsible row

You can oven dry the diatomite products under 180°C heat for 5 minutes. If product is still wet or holding water within, you may place it inside the oven for another 5 mins. Do make sure the oven’s fan is turned on for an even spread of heat. Heating Diatomite only on one side may cause it to warp.

What to do when it Breaks?

Broken pieces still retain their property. Re-use the broken pieces as dehumidifiers for your wardrobe or shoe cabinets to give the broken pieces a second life.
