How to Care for Diatomite (So It Dries Properly)
How to Use Bulbul Diatomite (So It Stays Clean and Dry)
Bulbul diatomite is made to wick water and dry quickly, so moisture doesn’t sit around. The key to keeping it clean is simple.
Keep it dry between uses
Diatomite works best when it can absorb small amounts of water and then fully dry out.
If it stays wet for long periods, mould can happen just like with any damp item.
Do not wash it like a normal product
This is the most common mistake.
- Do not soak it in water
- Do not rinse it regularly
- Do not treat it like plastic
Because diatomite is porous, soaking makes water sink deep inside, and it can stay damp for a long time. That trapped dampness is usually why mould shows up.
What to do instead
For day-to-day care:
- Wipe with a slightly damp cloth or soft sponge
- Then leave it to air dry completely
That’s it.
Extra tip
If you’re using it in a humid bathroom, give it enough time and airflow to dry properly. A quick wipe and proper drying beats washing every time.
If your diatomite has absorbed a lot of water, it usually feels heavier and colder than normal. That’s a sign it needs more time to fully dry out. Leave it somewhere with airflow (or gentle sun) and avoid putting it back into a damp spot until it feels light and dry again.
